Case study 1: 4 axis mill fixture with hydraulic clamps
Client was in need of a mill fixture for large scale production of combustion covers for the gas turbine industry. Requirements included a tombstone so that two parts could be loaded at the same time, and flipped over so that front and back could be machined. Other requirements included hydrulic clamping, an indexing feature so the part could be rotated around a center axis, and the ability to do centerline programming. Hex engineering designed, supervised the construction of the mill fixture, and did the CAD/CAM programming for the client. After testing and installation, the client was happy and could machine at twice the previous speed. Productivity was substantially increased due to this tool design.
